Many communities have a vision for a more sustainable future, one where tourism doesn’t just thrive but enriches the municipality through sustainable development. However, many of the issues are not under the direct control of the municipality. In this module, we will explore how municipalities can actively engage stakeholders to turn a vision of a better destination for visitors and residents into reality. Sustainable and regenerative tourism is a complex and dynamic system that involves a wide range of actors, from visitors and hospitality businesses to local residents and community-based organisations. At the heart of it all is the municipality’s ability to actively engage and collaborate with these stakeholders. By creating a platform for dialogue and partnership, municipalities can ensure that tourism development is first and foremost about the enrichment of the lives of those who call the destination home. In this module, we will discuss the importance of partnerships and collaboration in sustainable tourism and explore different models for engaging in sustainable tourism from a municipal perspective.
